Capturing the architectural marvel of Walden 7, designed by the visionary Ricardo Bofill, my photographic series delves into the intricate interplay of geometric forms and vibrant colors that define this iconic residential complex. Located in Sant Just Desvern, near Barcelona, Walden 7's unique labyrinthine structure offers a striking exploration of urban living, blending communal spaces with the privacy of individual units. Through my lens, I highlight the building's bold visual statements and its dynamic interaction with light and shadow, inviting viewers to experience the spatial ingenuity and utopian aspirations that Bofill envisioned for modern urban life. The series contains six images captured over the course of two days on location
I was inspired by the iconic mid-century architecture of the building and the cinematic tension of urban exteriors. The flash of red against the clean lines and muted tones of the façade evokes the work of photographers like Julius Shulman and filmmakers who used color as a narrative cue in modernist spaces. The elevator itself, a seemingly mundane detail, becomes a bold protagonist in the visual story—an emblem of movement, anticipation, and quiet drama in the city.
The stark geometry and vibrant color are meant to spark reflection on how small design elements can carry emotional weight, transforming a hotel facade into a stage for imagined narratives.
I chose photography as the medium because it allows me to engage with the building’s natural light and structural rhythm in a way that feels immediate and intimate.
